What Are You Waiting For?

Good day Readers.

This week we have an interesting topic.

What Are You Waiting For?

Well, dear reader, what are you waiting for?

Are you sitting there in your boring job wondering what you are doing there?
Do you have some sort of talent, something that you are good at?
Well, what are you waiting for?  What's stopping you?
Make a plan and go to it.  Focus on your talent and start doing what you love doing.
Whether it is acting or starting up that advertising business or even writing that book.
Get cracking and work on making that dream a reality.

Here are 5 tips to get you started.

1.  What are you good at?
The first thing to work on is to discover what you are good at?
What one thing could you do for no money?  What is easy for you to do?
What comes naturally to you? What do you love doing?  Answer that and
you are on the way.

2.  Formulate a plan.
Now that you have discovered what you love doing form a plan to succeed.
Work on achieving certain goals in 5, 10 and 20 years from now.

3.  Surround yourself with positive people.
When you start out you will always find people who will say you will not succeed.
So instead only surround yourself with positive people who will help you on your way.

4.  Find a mentor.
Find a mentor who is a success in your chosen career path.  Meet with them weekly or monthly
if you can and pick their brains ask all the advice you need and bounce idea's off them and listen to
what they have to say.

5.  Focus.
Focus on your chosen path and let nothing stop you from achieving what you want to do.

Well, what are you waiting for?

What is a Tweetup?

Hello there readers, today I shall be concentrating on Tweetups and giving you some tips on them.
Last week I was involved in organising a Tweetup and while I was doing it I got a lot of enquiries about
Tweetups, what are they?  What's a Tweetup?  etc etc.

So here is some help for you who do not know what a Tweetup is.

What is a Tweetup?
A Tweetup is a meeting of people from Twitter who meet in a social gathering to meet the people
they Tweet to.  Sometimes it is just a social gathering and sometimes speakers are organised,
prizes are given and creative games are played.

How do you organize a Tweetup?
The easiest way is to use something like twtvite.com - www.twtvite.com
The interface is pretty easy and you can share it on many social networking sites.
Then get the word out early and share it with all your friends and the people you would like to see at the event.

Keep promoting the Tweetup?
Keep telling people in the area about it so if you are having it in Durban, use the hashtag
#DBNTweetup or #DurbanTweetup or #Durban so people can see it when they search for tweetups.
Have it at a central venue and choose a good time to meet.

Start early
Start promoting the Tweetup early so that you can get awareness of the event and tell people on Facebook and  other sites about it also.

At the Tweetup
Have a host or MC and their job is to make sure the Tweetup is setup, food and drinks are ready if necessary and the venue is ready.  The host should also greet the people as they enter and ensure that everyone has a good time.

There you go, that should help you on your way to starting your own Tweetup.
No matter where you are on this planet you can start a Tweetup.

So what are you waiting for?

7 Tips On How To Dress For Business

Good Evening Readers.

This week I am looking at what to wear for business.

Tomorrow morning when you get up and dress for work take a look at yourself in the mirror.
How do you look?  Do you look ready to take on that billion dollar deal?
Are people going to take you seriously dressed as you are?
Here are 7 tips for men to to make sure you are dressed your best.

1.  Get a good pair of shoes.
Make sure you have a good pair of comfortable shoes.  It always helps if you shine them every morning so they are spotless as you step out.

2.  A smart pair of pants helps.
It always helps to have a neat pair of pants that fit you well.

3.  A good belt makes a difference.
A good belt can really set you apart from others.   Take a look for one that you can use for smart or casual wear.  It will help you stand out.

4.  A shirt and tie.
Now in this day and age with a more relaxed sense sometimes you do not have to wear a tie.  A smart shirt is fine silk or cotton perfect.  A good tie that matches makes you stands out.

5.  A jacket complements you.
Make sure you have some jackets for each day of the week.  Choose a variety of colours from black to dark blue to dark brown.   A good name will ensure your jacket lasts for you.  Always remember it must have inside pockets for all your gadgets, keys, wallet etc.

6.  Extras.
In winter time or even summer time you also have to make sure you have a nice scarf that makes you stand out.  Learn the various ways you can tie a scarf.  Also do not forget a smart set of sunglasses.  The design should match the shape of your face.  Always select a good aftershave as well.  Something you like.  A good wallet can also make you stand out.

7. A good haircut regularly.
Make sure you get a good haircut.  A good haircut can help improve your confidence tremendously so go out there and find a good barber.   Someone who can really cut your hair well and keep you informed on what is going on in the area.

If you take those 7 tips into account and always check yourself in the mirror before you head out you can only do one thing.   Succeed!

The Magic of Theatre

Greetings readers and bloggers.

Welcome to another entry in my blog.

Today I am talking about a new Theatre Company that is starting up in the Durban area.
Yesterday I was watching a wonderful show at St Clements Coffee Shop and was once again
transported into the magical world of theatre and how especially with audience participation it can take
you to wonderful places using your imagination.

After the show we were introduced to a new Theatre Company that is starting in the Durban area.
Now it is always wonderful to see a new Theatre company open.  Someone who is willing to take a
chance and see where it leads.

We were joined by producer / director Maurice Podbrey who will launch this new company with
Bheki Mkhwana.  The company is called Just In Time Productions.

They are starting with 3 shows at the Loft Playhouse Theatre from 5 April to 24 April 2011.

The 3 plays for the launch are Sitting Around the Fire (Tues 5 - Sat 9 April)

A Plague Of Heroes (Tues 12 - Sat 16 April)

and Thembalethu - Tshepang.    (Tues 19 - Sat 23 April)

Bookings are at Computicket.

I wish this theatre company the best and it is always marvellous to watch something new start up.
I hope they go from strength to strength.

You too can go from strength to strength.   So if you are thinking of starting that business now is the time
just like this theatre company.

Because if they can do it so can you.

10 Coffee Shops To Visit In Durban

Welcome bloggers to another entry.  Hope you enjoy.

The weekend is almost upon us and I thought what better topic than a lovely
guide of some of the best Coffee Shops I have visited in Durban, South Africa.

Durban has suddenly become quite a city with pavement coffee shops popping up as we speak.

Here is a list of some of the best I have been to.   Enjoy and visit them.

1.  St Clements Coffee Shop, Musgrave Road, Durban.
This coffee shop is one of my favourites as I visit it on Monday nights for shows and on Friday mornings to visit a great group of writers.  It has a wonderful atomosphere with a garden setting and fountain.  You can sit inside or outside and the owner Steve is always around to say hi.  The coffee is wonderful as is the breakfast.
For lunch try the noodles.  He specialises in them.  Wonderful staff and service.

2.  Zanzibar - Westwood Mall
This place has a breakfast special of R15 all day everyday which includes coffee.  Beat that.
Excellent value for money and delicious.   They also serve Starbucks coffee which is awesome.

3.  Mugg & Bean Ballito Lifestyle Centre
One of my favourites.  They make wonderful bottomless coffee and it has a wonderful setting.
Great ambience.  Excellent service.   Always something happening there.

4.  The Pot & Kettle - Botha's Hill - Valley of a 1000 hills.
Well what can one say about this place.  I mean the view is magnificent.  You have to arrive early in the morning to appreciate the beauty of the Valley.  Sit and enjoy one of their delicious breakfasts and take in that view.  Don't forget your camera.   When you leave don't forget to stop at the puzzle shop which is next door.
Get one of the easy t-shape puzzles it will drive you nuts.

5.   Gloria Jeans - Gateway Shopping Centre - Umhlanga
Ok a lot of people joke that I have shares in this coffee shop cause I'm there a lot.  Let's face it they make
a damn good cappuccinno.   I also recommend the very vanilla latte.  Great vibe, always busy.   You order first, pay, collect and sit down at tables or lovely couches.  Wonderful concept.  Interesting note.  They have 3 Gloria Jeans branches in Gateway.

6.  Cafe Java - Umdloti
Well this is a secret spot of mine.  Not only does it have a wonderful view, possibly the best I have seen but it's a wonderful drive to get there.  Always has people and the capuccinno is superb.  For those with a sweet tooth you might want to try the chocolate muffins.  If nobody sees you eat it it never happened.

7.  Vida e caffe - Umhlanga Rocks
Definitely one of the slickest run operations in Umhlanga.  Great vibe, friendly staff.
Cappuccinno is wonderful which includes a lindt chocolate.
Always a paper around.  Loyalty card members get free wi-fi.

8.  Valentino's - Amanzimtoti Beach.
Now this is a wonderful place.  Almost like a blast from the past.  They have a huge
breakfast selection.  Awesome food and drinks.  Wonderful vibe.
Characters delux.  The view isn't too bad either.

9.  Europa - Florida Road, Durban.
Well what can one say about this Morningside coffee shop.  It's located in Florida Road.   Sports cars come and go.  One can feel the vibe as you sit down next to business people, celebrities and the who's who of
Durban.   Their cappuccino is wonderful as are the chocolate muffins.
Excellent service.

10.  Tea Garden at The Botanic Gardens.  Durban.
Ah what a delightful surprise this place is.  They make some lovely coffee and I recommend the
crumpets with cream.  They are delish.  A wonderful place in the fresh air and you never know
who might pop by to say hello :)

Well hope you enjoyed that guide to some of Durban's lovely coffee shops.
Something to do this weekend perhaps.

Follow Your Dreams

Greetings Bloggers and Readers.

Welcome to another entry.

Follow your dreams is the title.  What do I mean by that?  Well tonight I took myself off to a delightful coffee shop St Clements in Musgrave Road, Durban to see the band Cloud 9.  This group of 3 musicians who performed eclectic music and gave us a history lesson on music.  It was a delightful evening, the weather was perfect, the audience was appreciative.  What a wonderful evening it was and as I watched them I became aware that these 3 musicians were clearly following their dreams.   Living life to the full and enjoying it at the same time.

How many of us have picked up a musical intstrument with the hopes of becoming the next pop star.
3 weeks later and it's in the garage gathering dust.  It takes time and dedication and learning, countless mistakes and failures to even get a start.   However once you get that start you are on the way to wonder.

So if you like playing the guitar or piano or any musical instrument why not take it up and practice even if it is just for 1 hour a day who knows where it might lead?

Have one goal!

Good day bloggers wherever you are on this planet. Hope this year is treating you well so far.

A friend of mine introduced me to a wonderful viewpoint he has.
He is a writer and for this year his one goal is 'To Publish One Book This Year.'

Simple, no? Do you see how it forces you to clarify your thinking.
It's simple, something you can look at each day and it's pretty easy to motivate yourself to accomplish it. Once the goal is accomplished move on to another goal.

So for a change this year, just have one goal and see how it goes.

Rain, Rain, Rain

Good day avid reader. Welcome to another of my blog entries.

Well it's been an interesting week over here in Durban, South Africa. Over here we have been having persistent rain day in day out. It's been so bad I found a swimming pool in my car when I opened it. No joke!

On the other side of the mountain in Cape Town it's 40 degrees. Go figure!

Dams are full and the farmers are smiling.

Now life is just like that. At times you will wonder when, just when are you going to hit success and then all of a sudden it's raining down success all around you. The trick is to keep doing what you love and sooner or later something will happen or you can make something happen.
Keep your nose to the grindstone and it's gonna rain good fortune on you.
Well either that or you will have a swimming pool in your car.

Seasons Greetings and New Years Resolutions

Well it is almost the end of 2010. Can you believe it?
If you think back one year have you achieved all you wanted to achieve this year.
When you have some free time you should sit down with a good cup of coffee and a notepad and pen. Draw up a list of 100 goals you would like to accomplish in 2011.

Then refine it to 50 goals, then to 20 goals, then to 10 goals.
Set a due date for each goal and plan how you intend to achieve it.
Some goals might be quite big and you might have to set up mini-goals for them.
The main task is to get yourself on track. Set a plan for your work and work your plan.

Set goals for your career, what do you want to do? What do you love doing? Follow that.
Set goals for your personal life.
Goals for your finances, pay off those debts, invest more so you can live a comfortable life.
Focus on your hobbies.
Give back to society.

The main aim is to enjoy it all.
So that at the end of 2011 you can tick off all those goals you set now.

A really good blog to read
